About Yarrawood Bushwalking Club

Yarrawood is a Sydney Bushwalking Club that welcomes new members and guests wanting to enjoy and experience the outdoors safely in a friendly and supportive group.

Our activities range from easy graded day walks and car camps, to hard, long week-end pack walks and extended multi-day pack walks. Although our main activity is bushwalking, we also regularly feature kayaking, cycling, liloing, abseiling and social nights in our

Program

The club has a very strong commitment to safety and friendliness in walking. Our philosophy is one of enjoyable and exhilarating walking in reasonable comfort and with good companionship.

History

Yarrawood Bushwalking Club was formed in 1983. But its history really began before that, with the commencement of a Course in Bushwalking and Camping at the Sydney Teacher's College in 1980.

From this course, a strong social group was established who wanted to enjoy the outdoors and so Yarrawood was born. Friendliness and safety are still core club values today.

Leaders

Our leaders are volunteers selected from the experienced pool of Yarrawood members, who may specialize in particular areas and activities eg day walks, pack walks, abseiling, canoeing etc. Their job is to organize activities and to ensure that it is conducted safely and enjoyably; and to deal with any issues that may arise.

Our leaders have responsibility for the size of a walking party and who joins a particular walk depending on their fitness and experience. To this end they will ask about your fitness and gear and assess your suitability for each activity.
